Getting Started

How do I get started with Fastmate?

  • Open the app and complete the onboarding flow (7 steps)
  • Set your personal information: height, weight, age, and gender
  • Choose your fasting window and hydration goals
  • Enable any optional features (like keeping the screen on during fasting)
  • Start tracking!

How do I set up my fasting window?

During onboarding or in Settings:

  • Select a preset fasting window (e.g., 16:8, 18:6, 20:4, OMAD)
  • Or create a custom fasting window with your own start and end times
  • Choose your timezone
  • Your settings are saved automatically

How do I start a fasting session?

  • Go to the Fasting tab
  • Tap “Start Fasting” to begin your current fasting window
  • The timer will count down to your fasting end time
  • You’ll receive a notification when your fast is complete

Can I track outside my scheduled fasting window?

Yes! You can manually start fasting at any time by tapping “Start Fasting” in the app, regardless of your preset schedule.

Fasting & Timer Features

What fasting windows are available?

Fastmate supports several preset fasting windows:

  • 6:18 (6 hours eating, 18 hours fasting)
  • 8:16 (8 hours eating, 16 hours fasting)
  • 12:12 (12 hours eating, 12 hours fasting)
  • 14:10 (14 hours eating, 10 hours fasting)
  • 16:8 (16 hours eating, 8 hours fasting)
  • 18:6 (18 hours eating, 6 hours fasting)
  • 20:4 (20 hours eating, 4 hours fasting)
  • OMAD (One Meal A Day – 23 hours fasting)
  • Circadian Rhythm (customized to your sleep schedule)
  • Custom (create your own fasting window)

What happens during a fasting session?

  • The timer counts down to your fasting end time
  • The app tracks your progress visually
  • When your fast is complete, you’ll get a notification
  • Your completed fast is saved to your history

Can I end my fast early?

Yes! At any time during a fasting session, you can:

  • Tap “End Fast” to stop the session early
  • The app will record this as an early-ended fast
  • You can start a new fasting session anytime

Does the app keep my screen on during fasting?

By default, Fastmate keeps your screen on while you’re actively viewing the fasting timer. You can disable this in Settings if needed.

Weight Tracking

How do I log my weight?

  • Go to the Weight tab
  • Tap the “+” button
  • Enter your weight in your preferred unit (kg, lbs, or stones)
  • Select the date (today by default)
  • Tap Save

Your weight is recorded with a timestamp.

Can I edit or delete weight entries?

Yes! In your weight history:

  • Swipe or long-press any entry to edit or delete it
  • Changes are saved immediately

How often should I weigh myself?

This is personal preference! Common approaches:

  • Daily (same time each morning for consistency)
  • Weekly (for a broader trend)
  • Less frequently (to reduce daily fluctuations)

Fastmate tracks all your entries and shows trends over time.

What weight units are supported?

  • Kilograms (kg)
  • Pounds (lbs)
  • Stones (st)

You can change your preferred unit in Settings anytime.

Hydration & Water Tracking

How do I log water intake?

  • Go to the Hydration tab
  • Tap the “+” button to add water
  • Select your volume unit (mL, L, oz, cups, pints, quarts, gallons)
  • Enter the amount
  • Optionally select a beverage type (water, coffee, tea, juice, etc.)
  • Tap Save

Your intake is recorded with a timestamp.

Can I set a daily hydration goal?

Yes! In Settings:

  • Go to Hydration preferences
  • Set your daily water intake goal
  • The app will track your progress toward this goal

What beverage types are tracked?

You can log different types of beverages:

  • Water
  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Juice
  • And more

Different beverages are tracked separately for detailed insights.

Can I edit or delete hydration entries?

Yes! In your hydration history:

  • Swipe or long-press any entry to edit or delete it
  • Changes are saved immediately

Notifications & Reminders

Why aren’t I getting notifications?

Check that notifications are enabled:

  • iPhone: Settings > Fastmate > Notifications > Allow Notifications
  • Android: Settings > Apps > Fastmate > Notifications > All notifications
  • Open Fastmate and check Settings > Notifications
  • Make sure Do Not Disturb is not active

When do I get notifications?

You’ll receive notifications for:

  • Fasting session completion
  • Daily hydration goal progress (if enabled)
  • Reminders to log weight or water (if enabled)

Can I customize notification frequency?

Yes! In Settings > Notifications, you can enable or disable specific notification types.

Can I get notifications in the background?

Yes! Fastmate supports background notifications for fasting completion and reminders, even when the app is closed.

Settings

How do I change the theme (Dark/Light mode)?

  • Open Settings
  • Go to Theme
  • Select: Light, Dark, or System Default
  • Your choice is saved immediately

How do I update my personal information?

  • Go to Settings
  • Tap “Personal Information”
  • Update height, weight, age, or gender as needed
  • Changes are saved automatically

Can I change my fasting window anytime?

Yes! Go to Settings > Fasting Preferences and select a new fasting window or create a custom one. Your next fasting session will use the new window.

Troubleshooting

The timer doesn’t work properly

  • Restart the app
  • Check that your device date and time are correct
  • Ensure the app has permission to run in the background
  • Update to the latest version

My entries are lost when I close the app

  • Your fasting sessions, weight, and hydration entries are automatically saved locally
  • Data should persist after closing the app
  • Restart the device if data seems missing

Notifications stopped working

  • Check device notification settings
  • Verify notifications are enabled in app Settings
  • Restart your device
  • Reinstall the app (last resort)

Can I use the app offline?

Yes! Fastmate works completely offline. All data is stored locally on your device.

Can I switch between units (kg/lbs, mL/oz)?

Yes! In Settings > Units, you can change your preferred units for weight and volume. Your historical data will automatically convert.

Data & Privacy

Is my data safe?

Yes. All your fasting sessions, weight entries, hydration logs, and settings are stored locally on your device only. No data is uploaded to servers.

Can I back up my data?

  • iPhone: Enable iCloud Backup in Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud
  • Android: Enable Google Play Backup in Settings > Apps & Notifications > Advanced > Google Play Backup

Backups are automatic when enabled.

What happens if I uninstall the app?

Your data will be deleted from your device. Please enable cloud backup before uninstalling.

Does the app collect usage data?

Only minimal analytics are collected to improve the app. No personal health data is shared or stored on external servers.
